Adopt a Cabin

Adopt-A-Cabin Program

Help Us Care for Camp Zanika’s Rustic Cabins

Camp Zanika Lache has been shaped and sustained by generations of incredible volunteers. Our Adopt-A-Cabin Program invites individuals, families, service clubs, and community groups to support the ongoing care of our rustic log cabins—ensuring they remain safe, welcoming, and comfortable spaces for campers year after year.

Program Purpose

The Adopt-A-Cabin Program provides volunteers with a meaningful opportunity to contribute their time, skills, and energy to the upkeep of Camp Zanika. By adopting a cabin, volunteers help preserve the camp experience for future generations while supporting our mission of connecting young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves.

NCW Camp Fire is deeply grateful for the long tradition of community support and is committed to making the volunteer experience accessible and enjoyable. We work to minimize paperwork, provide timely approvals, and offer the guidance and resources volunteers need to be successful.

Roles in the Program

Adopter
The adopter is the volunteer or volunteer group who commits to caring for a designated cabin or facility. Adopters agree to perform tasks related to basic upkeep, minor repairs, improvements, and seasonal maintenance.

Cabin
The cabin (or facility) is the specific structure the volunteer team chooses to adopt. Each cabin has its own character, needs, and history within camp.

NCW Camp Fire
NCW Camp Fire staff or committee members provide support, communication, and approval for projects. We offer direction, guidance, and financial assistance where needed to help adopters complete their work safely and effectively.

How to Adopt a Cabin – Step by Step

  1. Submit Your Interest
Fill out our Adopt-A-Cabin interest form or contact the Camp Fire office to let us know you’d like to get involved.

  2. Connect With Camp Staff
A staff member or committee representative will reach out to learn more about you/your group, your skills, and your availability, and to answer any questions.

  3. Choose a Cabin or Facility
Together, we’ll identify a cabin (or other building) that fits your interests and the camp’s current needs. You’ll learn about its history and what kind of care it needs.

  4. Review Needs & Expectations
We’ll walk through a list of suggested tasks (cleaning, minor repairs, painting, seasonal prep, etc.), safety guidelines, and how often we hope adopters can visit.

  5. Get Approval & Support
NCW Camp Fire will review and approve any proposed projects, help prioritize tasks, and discuss what materials, tools, or financial support can be provided.

  6. Schedule Work Days
You’ll work with camp staff to set up one or more volunteer days that fit your schedule and camp’s calendar (spring clean-up, fall prep, or special projects).

  7. Adopt, Care, and Celebrate!
Come out to camp, roll up your sleeves, and help care for “your” cabin. We’ll celebrate your efforts with recognition, updates, and the knowledge that campers are benefitting directly from your work.
